Making Music

Before this week, I had never written a song. Now I've written two! Kind of! Neither are in any way complete, and they're very short, so putting them on loop in the game would probably get really annoying really fast, but it's a lot more than I had before this week. I've learned the very basics of how to operate a DAW, and I finally got the old keyboard I stumbled upon setup somewhere where I'll play it. The best part is that it's been really fun! I have a just barely existent background in music. I played percussion in middle school, and I took guitar lessons for a few months also in middle school. Since those lessons, I've also attempted to pick up the guitar a few other times, but I've never had the patience or drive to ever get to a point where I could say I knew how to play guitar. I just know a few chords, really. But so far I've REALLY enjoyed learning small amounts of music theory and composition. My songs so far are beyond generic, and I'm still a novice at best, but I actually think they're kind of catchy and fun to listen to. The main thing I still feel I have no grasp on is how to direct a song towards a mood or feeling I want. For now I just kind of find a few fun notes that go together and add stuff around them. Anyways, here they are.

I've kind of had to psych myself up to get working on the more creative aspects of this game. I'm not really proficient at any of the things involved in game development except maybe programming. But so far, I've been having a lot of fun making music. I've watched a bunch of YouTube videos and relentlessly stole ideas from them. It helps that there's just a ridiculous amount of quality music content on the internet. I come from some slightly more niche hobbies when compared to making music, so having this massive quantity of really good resources is great.
